  10. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM KIDART: TYPEFACES
  11.  
  12. KidArt fonts are unique, complex and more demanding on your system
  13. resources than simple fonts.  They are designed to work well with most
  14. computers and applications at most reasonable character sizes. Newer
  15. printers will work well but some will print more slowly.
  16.  
  17. Remember that if you experience a problem, there are three potential
  18. sources:
  19.  
  20. The number of different fonts on one page
  21. The size of the fonts
  22. The complexity of the fonts
  23.  
  24. Reduce any of these to try to isolate the problem.

  27. GENERAL NOTES
  28.  
  29. 1) You don't have to install all the fonts when you begin installing
  30.    Typefaces; you can install fonts that you require currently and
  31.    bring the others in at any time.
  32.  
  33. 2) All font names have a prefix KA so that they appear together in
  34.    the system fonts menu. (This prefix, however, is ignored in most
  35.    references to the fonts.)
  36.  
  37. 3) The fonts are designed specifically for kids, so not all characters
  38.    are included in every set. If a character is not included, a
  39.    rectangle will appear on the screen when the key is struck.

  41. Printer Notes
  42.  
  43. 1) PostScript Printers:
  44.  
  45. From within Windows Control Panel, select Printers, highlight your
  46. printer under "Installed printers:" Select Setup; Option; Advanced. In
  47. the "Send to Printer as" window,  select Bitmap(Type 3).
  48.  
  49. 2) HP LaserJet II series printers and compatibles:
  50.    From within Windows Control Panel, select Printers, highlight your
  51.    printer under "Installed printers:" Select Setup; Option. Check the box
  52.    next to "Print TrueType as Graphics."
  53.  
  54. 3) Dot matrix printers
  55.     Use the highest resolution available.

  57. Macintosh
  58.  
  59. FONT INSTALLATION
  60. On your diskette are two folders nested with the KidArt Typefaces
  61. folder:
  62. lEPrimary Fonts
  63. lESecondary Fonts
  64.  
  65. 1) Quit all programs that are open.
  66.  
  67. 2) Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  68.  
  69. 3) Locate the font you want to install on the CD-ROM and drag it onto
  70.    the closed System Folder icon on your startup disk.  You can click
  71.    multiple font icons while holding down the Shift key to select more
  72.    than one font.
  73.  
  74. 4) A dialog box appears letting you know that the fonts will be stored
  75.     appropriately. Click OK.
  76.  
  77. 5) Remove the CD-ROM and store in a safe place.

  80. FONT REMOVAL
  81.  
  82. 1) Depending on the version of your system software, locate the font to
  83.    be removed in your System file, Fonts Folder, Extension Folder or
  84.    your System Folder.
  85.  
  86. 2) Drag it to the Trash.

  89. Windows
  90.  
  91. FONT INSTALLATION
  92.  
  93. 1) Insert the CD-ROM into a CD-ROM drive.
  94.  
  95. 2) From the Windows Program Manager select the FILE menu.
  96.  
  97. 3) From the FILE menu choose RUN.
  98.  
  99. 4) In the Command Line box type D:\INSTLL.EXE (note the absence of a
  100.    letter 'A') and press ENTER.
  101.  
  102.    The letter D: is your CD-ROM drive.  If your CD-ROM drive letter is
  103.    other than D: substitute accordingly.  For example if your drive is
  104.    E: you would type E:\INSTLL.EXE in the Command Line box.
  105.  
  106. 5) The Master Installer program will appear on your screen.  Select the
  107.    KidArt Font Installer from the installation list and then click on
  108.    the INSTALL button.
  109.  
  110. This will activate the Fonts Installer program.  From the fonts
  111. installer choose the typefaces you wish to install and press the
  112. install button.
  113.  
  114. To remove typefaces, choose the fonts you wish to remove and press the
  115. Uninstall Fonts button.
  116.  
  117. For more information on how to use the Font Installer program please
  118. refer to the On-Line help available by pressing the F1 key in the Fonts
  119. Installer.

  122. KidArt:Icons
  123.  
  124. General
  125. The product includes over 500 unique icons divided into categories
  126. according to subject area:
  127.  
  128.      Animals
  129.      Community
  130.      Flags
  131.      Holidays
  132.      Monsters
  133.      People
  134.  
  135. Each icons is given in both b&w as well as color. Choose according to
  136. the printer you are using. The color icons will not print well on a B&W
  137. printer.
  138.  
  139. Macintosh
  140.  
  141. The files are in PICT format.
  142. You have the following folders:
  143. For B&W icons: The folders with the above name followed by B/W
  144.  
  145. For color icons: The folders with the above name followed by Color
  146.  
  147. Windows
  148. The files are in BMP format.
  149.  
  150. You have the following directories:
  151.
